Leather Swag & Women and Weightlifting...

FINALLY, the debut of the Cole Haan leather jacket Santa Mom & Dad bought me for Christmas!! Ahhh, my dad picked it out. He's got great taste, no?? Anyway, I'm so happy that typically rainy Oregon has been sunny today and the last couple of days. I love when that happens so I don't ruin my new leather swag. Ha.

Hi, crooked smile :)

outfit :: skinny jeans- American Eagle tank- Old Navy tunic- Nordstrom Rack scarf- random leather jacket- gifted by Cole Haan boots- by Jessica Simpson via Macy's

How is the week treating you all? Unfortunately my hip has been bothering me a lot lately. That has put a halt to my running. Huge bummer since I don't mind running in the freezing cold at all, as long as it's not raining too. So this week I'm staying focused on strength training. I'm really working on getting my arms back to where they were awhile ago. Whenever I slack on lifting they just get scrawny fast! That's not a good look- I'm into being toned. Anyway, lifting just makes me feel so good! Do you lift? Don't be scuuuurd, it won't bulk you up if you do it right! I think a lot of women get scared they'll be super huge if they lift. That's really a myth, people! The truth is, lifting increases your metabolism and it takes a lot of training to look like a man. Seriously. One thing I do is keep it on the lighter side but increase repetitions. I also keep my hand weights near my television. The rule is, if I'm watching I have to move too. So I'll get some weighted lunges, abs and arm exercises in while I watch.

What kinds of workouts do you do at home??

Have a question?? Formspring Me. I promise to answer!

  1. Great post! I love the outfit too! I agree with you about lifting. I do light weights in a variety of repetition and styles for the perfect toned but not over toned look. As far as home excercise goes my fav work out is plank push ups using the stairs. Perfect for toning weak arms and your core!

  5. I love the colour of your shirt, very pretty! You are very motivated doing weights while watching tv, I sometimes do yoga at home.

About the pics The blurred/out of focus background is from the lens I use on my camera (30mm 1.8G & I shoot with a nikon) and to touch up the colours etc I used photoshop to edit :)

  6. Lookin' good, mama! Fab jacket.

And THANK YOU for preaching about lifting for women, and that it WON'T make you bulky! Honestly, I don't understand why women think that. Do they even know how much work (and other stuff) it takes to look like a female bodybuilder? Uh, those little 7lb weights are NOT going to do it.

I couldn't live without it lifting. I've been a little slack over the last six months or so and my weight has crept up (mostly diet), but I'm still in the gym lifting weekly. So when I peel that 10 pounds off, the tone and muscle will be there! Nothing makes me feel better than muscle. It's the best.

  7. HEY! Thank you for the thoughtful comment!! You're so supportive!!

Yes, I, myself was scared many years ago, but the truth is, you just won't bulk up. I'm going to do a Fit Tuesday post this month that will go into more depth about this. I held the record for girls' squats in my high school senior year (205) and at the time I was TINY!!

Good for you for getting back into the swing of things!! You're right, it feels SO GOOD to be firm!! SO. DANG. GOOD. Keep up your hard work, girl!! Eat clean and keep working out- You'll get to where you want to be!!  XO

  11. I can't get over how incredible you look, lady!! I love your photos. I don't really do much strength training work outs, b/c I lift A LOT in my job (heavy 6' wooden tables, chair stacks, lighting instruments, etc)...

  13. I am kind of the opposite when it comes to weightlifting -- I do a BUTT LOAD of weight and fewer repetitions.  Lifting a lot of weight seems to work better for my arms since they are naturally small.  Ever since I started working out like a dude a few years ago, I have seen awesome results.

P.S. OBSESSED WITH that leather jacket.  Meow.

  15. Hi Hannah!! Thank you so much!! I do have some tips, I will get back to you with them soon. :) Don't get discouraged- you'll get there!!! For now, one tip is, if you're breastfeeding DO NOT DIET!! Your body needs those extra 200-250 calories, and breastfeeding will up your metablism!! but it will fall if you restrict your intake too much. :)

Yes, try lifting and see what the results are- you'll love it! And don't be surprised if you're hungry more often... .lifting raises your basal metabolic rate!! BOOYAH!
