Skin Care!!

I am one of those unlucky women who battles with adult acne and oily skin. It's truly not fun and I have tried almost everything to get my skin back in order! I often treat it with lots and lots of sacylic acid products and such, and I just end up with spots of extremely dry, peeling skin. Sounds nice, huh?

Over the summer I was approached by this kind woman named Brenda, in the parking lot of my office building. She was very sweet and introduced herself as a local Mary Kay consultant. She asked me if I would be willing to model in a make-up presentation and make-up contest she was entering. I was super flattered and agreed to help her. In one of our meetings together, Brenda and I were discussing my skin issues as I sampled some of her products. She recommended some products that she said would definitely help my skin. Honestly, I wasn't totally convinced since these products didn't seem to have any of those strong, acne-fighting ingredients such as sacylic acid. However, I have been using the following products religiously and they have worked wonders on my skin over the past 8 or so weeks!!!

Here are the products and my current skin care routine:

A. TimeWise 3-in-1 Cleanser: This is my daily face wash. It contains gentle exfoliant, cleanser and toner in one product. There are two formulas: normal/dry and combination/oily. I have the combination/oily. For each use you only need about a dime-sized dollop with a little water.

B. TimeWise Age-Fighting Moisturizer: This is my daily moisturizer. It also has two formulas: normal/dry and combination/oily. After my morning cleanse, I use a small amount on my entire face.

C. TimeWise Day Solution Sunscreen SPF *20: Blocks UVA/UVB rays, and peptide which relaxes lines in your face.

D. Eclose Plant Based Beauty Eye Cream: Plant stem cell eye cream. I dab this under my eyes after moisturizing.

Make Up Preparation Products:

1. Oil Mattifier: This stuff is AWESOME!! It's purpose is to mattify the oily spots on your face. I put this on my face whether I am going to wear foundation or not. I find that it works really well. You can also carry it in your handbag and use it on oily spots during the day, but I rarely remember to do this.

2. Covergirl & Olay Primer: This primer can be used on your entire face under your make-up, but I only use it on my eye lids. My face tends to be oily in many places, so I use as little products on my face as possible.

3. TimeWise Matte-Wear Liquid Foundation: Specifically for combination/oily skin. I rarely wear foundation because I hate it when I can feel stuff on my face. This foundation is so light that it doesn't feel like anything is there!! It also gives smooth coverage, so I do wear this a few days a week.

Evening Routine:

ATimeWise 3-in-1 Cleanser*: This is my daily face wash. It contains gentle exfoliant, cleanser and toner in one product. There are two formulas: normal/dry and combination/oily. I have the combination/oily. For each use you only need about a dime-sized dollop with a little water.
*I also use an eye make-up remover at times, but I have a few I rotate between.

B.& C.  Microderm Abrasion Set: The first in the set is the exfoliator. I am convinced this product has been the key to repairing my acne!! You only need a little bit, add a splash of water, and massage into your face for a couple of minutes and it really clears out your pores! It also does so without tearing up your skin. It's powerful, but gentle. Second, there's the replenishing serum. It refines your pores after exfoliating. This set is a bit spendy ($55) but worth every dollar!! If I had to choose one skin care product to keep in stock at all times, it would be this set without a doubt!!

E. TimeWise Night Solution: Vitamins, antioxidants and collagen-enhancing peptides nourish, smooth and firm your skin.

FEclose Plant Based Beauty Eye Cream: Plant stem cell eye cream. I dab this under my eyes after moisturizing.

I really wish I had a "before" photo for you! I know you can still see a couple of blemishes, but my face has come a LONG WAY!! Seriously! For awhile I wore hats as often as possible, and really wasn't feeling pretty at all! I am finally feeling back in "my skin." I can confidently walk around with no make-up on without wishing I could be invisible! FYI- usually I don't have those bags, but this was taken after a long day on 4 hours of sleep!
No Make-Up!

Staying Fit Through the Holidays: Thanksgiving

Hey all!

So, of course, around this time of year, fitness magazines, websites, friends and family are all discussing how to not gain weight or get out of shape over "the holidays." I just wanted to briefly offer a couple of tips as we head into Thanksgiving and holiday gatherings.

1. Prepare. Think ahead about how you want to feel after your meal. Most of us don't feel great when we are completely stuffed and our pants need to be unbuttoned at the top, right?? So, imagine just being satisfied at the end. Also, no matter how busy you are the day before, get some activity in!!

2. DO NOT restrict your intake before the meal!!! I repeat, do NOT restrict before the meal! Have a healthy, light, breakfast and lunch leading up to the Thanksgiving (or other holiday) meal. If you don't eat, or eat very little leading up to the "big" meal, you are likely to actually over-eat once you get to dinner. Also, your metabolism will come to a screeching halt, which is never a good thing!

3. Indulge in moderation. I know at Thanksgiving there's usually an entire spread of delectable comfort foods and goodies! My aunt's house is where we have Thanksgiving dinner, and the food is AMAZING!! While Thanksgiving is certainly (in my opinion) not the time to diet, I would suggest eating as you normally would. What I choose to do is try a little bit of everything I want. Rather than filling up three plates of my favorites, I go for one plate and get a little of everything... in my case, possibly more than a little of my Auntie's mac & cheese. It's too good!!

4. Get ACTIVE afterwards!! For example, a couple years ago, my family started a tradition of going bowling in the evening after dinner an dessert. No, it's not a terribly intense workout, but it does get your blood flowing and it's a fabulous activity for any amount of people at almost every age! So if you are someone who has the ability to introduce a new tradition to your family, do so. If not, why not bundle up and get a group of family members or friends to take a stroll around the neighborhood together after you eat. These are fun things to do together, that gets you active and gets your metabolism moving. If any of you try this, I would love to hear about it!!

Do you have any tips to share??

HOLA!! Happy Almost-Friday to you all!!

I'm so excited for the next day or two! Tonight I'm reuniting with my close group of friends from college for my friend, Heidi's wedding rehearsal! She was the very first friend I met in college and I love her like crazy! Tonight we are all going to dinner and off to the rehearsal. Heidi met her soon-to-be-husband while we were in college at Oregon State, at least 7 years ago, and they've been going strong ever since.

I'm loving the cozy, casual yet somewhat dressy look of this outfit. When I saw the sweater/cape at Nordstrom I knew it was a must have!! I'm excited to pair it with so many different looks. Can't you totally see it belted?!!

How would you style it??
