My favorites- Workin' it at home!

I hope everyone is having a great Saturday so far!

I thought I would share a few of my favorite essentials for getting a little at-home fitness in when you're around the house watching television or just don't feel like heading to the gym. 

1. Yoga Mat- I am sure you are all familiar with these! I like to have this around for obvious reasons. I have hardwoods, so it's great to have a softer surface for stretching, abs, etc. I like to roll it out to stretch on while I'm watching television or talking on the phone. Yes, I've been known to put my friends on speaker while I stretch on the floor. Of course, the mat is also great for a yoga workout! One of my favs is the "Yoga Meltdown" dvd, with Jillian Michaels.

2. Light Hand Weights- I picked this set up for about $6.00 total at Target. Mine are only 5lbs because I'm a weakling! But the point is, whatever the weight you choose, these are great to have around the house. Once again, I love to pull them out to use during times that would otherwise be lazy, such as while the television is on. You can use them for arms of course, or to add extra resistance for leg exercises such as lunges or squats. 

3. Balance Ball- I LOVE my balance ball!!! Mine actually came with a dvd that had some great moves that I even I hadn't previously tried. I didn't buy mine at Target, but I recently saw this same one there. I bought it for around $30.00 and have had it for about two years. It came with a pump, resistance band and a dvd. I use it all the time, so I would say it has certainly paid for itself! I primarily use mine for abs. I demonstrated one of my favorite ab moves in this post, and it's also great to do simple crunches on.

*an update on the blood pressure situation is, unfortunately it has not improved at this point. I'm definitely not happy about this! I'm following doctor's orders 100% and just praying things get better!

  1. These are definitely some great workout items to have in the home! I personally don't care much for balance or bosu balls, but that's because I'm kind of accident prone and always feel like I'm going to fall or hurt myself somehow. They do provide great workouts, though! The only other thing I like having at home that you didn't mention is a jump rope. Of course, you have to have fairly high ceilings and some extra space to jump rope at home, but it's a great workout (especially for volleyball players)!

  4. Ooooh!! Good one, Tara! I didn't even think of a jump rope!! That's a great one, actually! I have low ceilings in my condo, but I should bring this up in a post soon. Other people could totally jump rope! Thanks!!

  5. Totally! I try to always do some abs or stretching if I watch tv. Then I don't feel so bad. :)

  6. I really like the Stretch Bands ... They help me when I cannot travel with weights and stuff too!

  7. yes, those are pretty cool. I got one with my balance ball but I don't use it too much. I need to pull it out so I remember to! :)
