Something > Nothing!! Let's get MOVIN'!!

In this post I mentioned the new segment on my blog, Get Fit | Be Well | Have Fun! This segment will highlight my other love - fitness. I will share helpful public/community health concerns, tips from good nutrition to workouts to workout apparel and much in between. Please join me as my blog continues to evolve! Don't worry, fashion isn't leaving- fitness is just coming along! Also, I would be thrilled to post on reader requests for this topic. What do you feel gets in the way of adding exercise to your routine? I am guessing one is time. Something we all wish we had more of. Especially in The States, right? We are always in a hurry; always trying to figure out the most efficient way of getting things done for more time! Well, if you are anything like me, a factor of whether or not {or how long} you work out is how much time you have. Although I am physically unable to "work out" on a regular basis, in a conventional way, I do still make it a priority to move my body daily. This is something EVERYONE can do - no excuses!! On days where time {or let's face it- motivation} is too limited to go to the gym or go running/walking or whatever a typical workout may be for you, there are still things you can do:

  • Stretch! this is something you can do while you are watching television, typing a blog post, talking on the phone, etc. I usually stretch every day. It feels good and increases your flexibility. 
  • BTN Workout*- "Better Than Nothing" workouts are just modified versions of your typical workout. An example is, maybe you usually run 6-8 miles a day, or spend an hour and a half at the gym. Well, if you are pressed for time cut that in half. You may think it's not even worth it because it seems so short compared to your usual routine, but 20 minutes is wayyy better than nothing at all! Nothing at all won't get your metabolism burning, but 20 minutes will! :)
  • Workout videos. Are you thinking Jane Fonda?? :) Well, one of my personal favorites is Jillian Michaels' Yoga Meltdown. There are a couple of workouts on this DVD, so I can do the "Beginner" version {or half of it} when I have little time or energy. Also, If you have Comcast, there are so many workouts OnDemand. Check them out and find one that suits your schedule and lifestyle. 
To the point: There is always time to move your body. And unless you are injured or not able, it's always worth it to do something. From stretching to modified full-blown workouts, there's always something to fit your schedule, your lifestyle and your physical shape. So, if you have 15 minutes or an hour and a half- MOVE!!

  1. I workout 4 to 5 times a week and stretching is so important. Stretching gets the muscles ready and makes me more limber for the workout. I workout in the evening after work sometimes or I get up at 6am and it's so important because it makes me feel good inside and out.

  2. Hey Krystle, you're so right about that. I have struggled with exercising since forever (make sense?)

    I am all gung ho one minute and lax the next. I guess something is better than nothing but I wish I could develop consistency with it.

  3. Good!! And even if it does, let's face it honey, running in the rain gets old, just do something inside. It's better than nothing!! :)

  9. Instead of letting my busy schedule and complete lack of funds stop me from being fit, I get up at 5:00am during the week and work out to videos in my living room. I've grown to love that "me" time in the morning. Plus, I get alllll evening off! haha Great advice girl! xo
