FBFF ~ Confidence & Identity as a Blogger

Confidence & Identity as a Blogger

1. Have you ever looked at someones blog and thought yours will never measure up?

I think when I first started {only over 1 month ago} I would look at other blogs and get intimidated. However, now, I think it just inspires me more than anything. I see some amazing blogs that have you know, anywhere from 50-100+ comments on each post, and it just inspires me. I think about how those bloggers had to start somewhere, and build something from nothing, and now they are so established and well known. Then I think about why I started my blog, and how it really wasn't for everyone else. I mean, obviously people {hopefully} read, but my blog is for me. It is really a celebration of fashion, style, fun and the beauty of womanhood. So, when I think of it in terms of why I am here, I don't get intimidated and focus on whether I will "measure up," I get excited for the future and how my blog will help me as a person, and how much fun it could be to someday have a large "following" who love the beauty and creativity of womanhood with me. But if my "followers" stay at 13, I think that would be just fine.

2. Do you (did you) feel pressure to meet some kind of undefined standard for fashion bloggers?

I think it's hard to even determine the "standards." I mean, obviously it's great to have photos and it's fun when you can be relatable and people enjoy who you are and what your blog stands for. I think my pressure has been to have better photos when I very first started - you know, really clear ones with nice backgrounds. But now, I see my blog as more than just posting my outfits and I feel that it can still be fun without perfect photos every day. My only major standard is to be my true self and to have a good time. If it ever starts to feel too competitive I just wouldn't enjoy it anymore.

3. Many established fashion bloggers are also extraordinary DIYers, bakers, and crafty people. Do you think you need to combine all of these things to be successful at blogging?
No, I do not think I need to be a skilled DIYer, baker and crafter, etc to be successful. As I said before, I think I just need to be myself. It does sound a little cliche' but it's true! I have never seen crafts and baking on some of my favorite blogs. But then, one of my other top favorites is all of the above, and I love her blog too. I think it's about being who you are, and really highlighting your strengths... and maybe even your weaknesses at times.

4. The most successful blogs are the ones that have their own personal voice - how are you developing your voice or how did you find yours?

I don't have to work too hard to find my voice. I write the way that I talk. I am a little obsessed with perfect grammar, but on my blog, I think it's important to write the way I talk because then my "voice" shows through effortlessly. If everything was perfectly grammatically correct, I don't think it would present my personal voice; I think it would sound like basic story writing.

5. Toot your own horn... what's one thing you do that is unique to you and your blog? What gives your blog an edge?

Honestly, I am still working on that. But there is one thing I have noticed -my personal style and sense of fashion is different than most {if not all} of the personal style blogs I have read. I have been wrestling with how to put this into words... basically, I think I tend to be a little bit more "matchy, matchy" with my style. I have a lot more solids and classic looks, with a little bit of glamorous edge.
